Some trends are hot and cold. Ice globes do a lot, including their ability to treat bags under the eyes, reduce redness, and leave skin feeling cool and refreshed. They also give us a little lymphatic facial massage without the strength of a gua sha tool.
What is Ice Globe?
A ice globe is a round glass instrument filled with liquid that creates a cooling effect when chilled overnight in the refrigerator. They have a variety of therapeutic benefits, including reducing redness, puffiness, dark circles and shrinking pores.
“Ice globe really helps reduce inflammation, puffiness and redness,” says esthetician Mrs. Deng. “Think of it this way: If you sprained your ankle, you’d use ice to reduce inflammation, bruising, and pain. The same goes for facial skin, and using a ice globe is a fun, quick way to achieve those effects.”
We recommend that clients with inflamed acne use it twice daily to reduce pain, redness and inflammation. If acne is a concern for you, consider pairing your puck with one of the best moisturizers for oily skin.
We put the ice globe to the test
Step 1: Cool the Ice Globe
We were excited to test them and I noticed a warning on the bottom, “Do not store Ice Globes in freezer. Store in refrigerator or place in ice bowl or cold water before use. Wow, crisis solved. Ice Globes pass through Specially designed liquids don’t hold up when frozen. So I put them in the freezer for 10 minutes, which is the recommended duration.
Can’t all ice balls be stored in the freezer? No, because the liquid inside some ice balls is antifreeze, even if the temperature is below zero, it can still maintain its structure without freezing.
Step 2: Apply Serum
While I waited, I applied a facial serum. Ice globe work best “after removing a hydrating mask or serum.” This is because the spheres help the product penetrate the skin instead of staying on it. This step is just as important as getting your skincare routine going so the products work their magic by soaking into the skin.
Step 3: Massage puck into skin
I started using the puck following the steps of the lymphatic facial massage. Starting in the center of the face, I rolled the ball out and down the neck. Rackley recommends keeping the pucks moving rather than keeping them in one place and fixed in one place, as that can cause irritation. The puck glides effortlessly over my skin, and the coolness feels absolutely amazing in 113-degree weather.
I looked more rosy than usual that day and I was happy to see that my skin tone was evened out after using the ice globe. It’s probably a combination of the cooling effect of the ice globe and the fact that my skin absorbs the serum properly.
I also tried the Lifting Facial, which involves stroking upwards along my chin, cheekbones, and above my brows. While I can’t say I’ve noticed a noticeable lift in my skin after one use, it’s certainly satisfying – better than nothing. After a while, my lift shifted, stroking impromptu up and down in every direction. Surprisingly, this is my winning ticket. It turns out that following the contours of my skin while paying attention to which areas need a lift works best.
The mornings are my favorite time to use ice globes because they instantly reduce puffiness while helping my skin look and feel more awake. As recommended, I clean the cooling globes with 70% alcohol and rinse in warm water after each use. This keeps my new skincare tools clean and tidy for future use. I also store them in boxes to keep them safe.
